ABOUT WOODEN DOORS
There are three main types of wooden doors: Panel
Wooden Doors, Ledged Wooden Doors, and Engineered Wood Doors. Panel Wooden Doors
have a frame of vertical members (stiles) and horizontal members (rails). These
typically create four or six openings, into which solid wooden panels are
slotted. Alternatively the openings may be glazed. Ledged Wooden Doors are of
traditional rustic construction; vertical planks are held together with
horizontal rails to which diagonal braces may be added. Engineered wood doors

Sabrina: Wooden Doors. Sabrina, based close to the River Severn in Shrewsbury, specialises in the manufacture of traditional hand-crafted oak doors, for internal and external use. The name Sabrina derives from that of the goddess of the river. Oak 'straight from the tree' is machined, assembled and finished completely on the Sabrina premises. Visits by prospective customers to the Sabrina workshops are welcomed and a guided tour is provided. The Sabrina range of internal oak doors encompasses classical, medieval, and simple contemporary designs. The Trade Oak Doors range are simple rustic-style oak doors which have vertical planking and three horizontal rails fixed to the back of the door. Sabrina oak doors can be finished in dark, medium or natural stain, or with the special Sabrina antique finish. All interior doors are then hand polished and waxed.
Country Doors: Wooden Doors. Country Doors, which is based near Tring, Hertfordshire, has been operating for over 20 years. It specialises in the manufacture of hand made wooden doors for internal and external use. The doors, which are made from kiln dried pine timber, are suitable for a wide range of buildings from period town houses to country cottages. They are made by hand to the customer's measurements, in order to achieve an precise fit into existing doorways. The wooden doors are suitable for painting, or for waxing to give a natural look. There are four main styles of wooden door: Ledge Doors, Ledge & Brace Doors, and Four Panel Doors, and Stable Doors. Ledge Doors are made from vertical pine planks, held together with three horizontal rails fixed to the back of the door. Ledge & Brace Doors are similar, but with additional diagonal rails for extra strength. Four Panel Doors are Victorian-style, with panels fitted into a strong solid pine frame. Wooden stable doors can open independently in two upper and lower parts.
Premdor: Wooden Doors. Premdor UK is part of the international Masonite group, which is based in Tampa, Florida. Premdor bought Europa Doors in 1994, and Crosby Ltd in 1996. Premdor's wooden doors are intended for internal use. They are made from solid engineered softwood, to which an Oak veneer is glued on all surfaces. Premdor also manufactures flush veneer and flush foil internal which have a plain flush surface, without indented panels or mouldings. These internal doors are available in 25mm or 35mm thickness, with in both cases a solid composite core. The flush foil internal doors have a WoodTone foil surface, imitating Beech, Ash or Oak. The Premdor range of wooden doors is available through a network of distributors across the UK. There is a postcode locator on the website to identify local distributors.
